Gmail Notifier Plus Privacy Statement

Effective date: October 16, 2026

Gmail Notifier Plus is a desktop application provided by Refreshment Ltd. Liability Co. ("we" or "us"). It connects to Google from your Mac to show unread email counts, message previews and notifications. This statement explains how the application handles your information.

No collection or retention by us

Refreshment Ltd. Liability Co. does not collect, retain or store your connected Google account information or email data on servers or other systems operated by us through your use of Gmail Notifier Plus.

The app communicates directly between your Mac and Google. It does not upload your email address, authorization tokens, mailbox information or message content to us. We do not operate a central user database, credential store or email service for the app. The app includes no advertising, usage analytics or automatic reporting of your activity or crash reports to us.

Information needed to operate the app is processed or saved on your Mac, as described below. Information you voluntarily send us outside the app is addressed separately under Other services and voluntary communications.

Google access and its purpose

You connect an account through Google's sign-in and consent pages. The app does not receive your Google password. It requests account identification permissions (openid and email) and read-only Gmail access (gmail.readonly).

The Gmail permission allows read access to email messages and settings. The app uses it to obtain your account email address, unread Inbox count, message identifiers, labels, selected message headers, dates and short snippets for previews and notifications. It does not download attachments or full message bodies. It does not use the Gmail API to send, change or delete your messages. Opening a message or composing email takes place in Gmail in your browser.

Information on your Mac

  • Account settings: The app saves connected email addresses, Google account identifiers, your preferences and first-run completion locally so it can recognize accounts and remember your choices.
  • Authorization: Google authorization tokens allow the app to check mail without repeated sign-in. Development and current alpha builds save refresh authorization in a local file protected by filesystem permissions. Builds configured for release use the macOS Keychain. Access tokens are held in memory. Connections to Google's services use HTTPS.
  • Email previews and notifications: The app processes message previews in memory and does not maintain a mailbox archive. If notifications are enabled, preview text and message identifiers are also passed to macOS. macOS may retain notifications after the app closes, according to your system settings.
  • Local diagnostics: Operational diagnostics may record technical state and aggregate unread counts on your Mac. These diagnostics are not automatically sent to us.

Your choices and deletion

You can remove a connected account in the app's Settings. A successful removal deletes that account's settings and authorization from the app's current local credential store and stops monitoring it. Removing an account does not delete your Gmail messages or revoke Google's authorization grant. You can revoke that grant separately through your Google Account connections.

Uninstalling the app alone may leave local application data or Keychain entries. Older credential copies, system notification history and backups may also remain under your or macOS's control. You can manage notifications in the app and in macOS settings. We have no server copy of your connected account or email data to delete.

Other services and voluntary communications

Google processes authentication and Gmail requests under its own Privacy Policy. Your browser and macOS may keep their own history, notifications or diagnostic records. For example, opening Gmail can place an account email address or message identifier in your browser history.

If you choose to contact us, submit a GitHub issue, request access to a test release or make a donation, you share the information needed for that interaction with us and the relevant service. A test release may require your email address to be added to Google's test-user list. These voluntary interactions are separate from the app's Gmail access; the no-collection statement above concerns information obtained through normal app operation. External services, including GitHub and PayPal, have their own privacy practices. Please do not send passwords, authorization tokens or private email content in support requests or public issues.

Google data commitments

Gmail Notifier Plus uses information received from Google APIs only to provide its visible email notification features. We do not sell this information, use it for advertising or profiling, or use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models. Its use of Google data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and the Google Workspace user data and developer policy.

Contact and changes

For privacy questions, contact Refreshment Ltd. Liability Co. at andrew@shellscape.org.

We will update this statement and its effective date when these practices change. Any new use of Google user data will be disclosed and consent obtained as required before that use begins.
